EUROPEAN NATIONALS AND THEIR FAMILIES
Currently, European nationals and their families can apply for permanent residence cards after spending 5 years in the UK, if they then want to acquire British Citizenship.
Following the outcome of the Brexit Referendum, permanent residence cards will not be valid proof of residence after 31 December 2020. As such, the Government has devised the EU Settlement Scheme, consisting of an online application, which if completed successfully, will allow European nationals and their close family members to remain in the UK beyond 31 December 2020. Applicants who have been in the UK for 5 years or more will acquire ‘’settled’’ status and those who have been in the UK for less than 5 years will acquire ‘’pre-settled’’ status.
We can assist European nationals and their families already present in the UK to apply for permanent residence cards, with the aim of acquiring British Citizenship before 31 December 2020. We can also assist with the application process required under the EU Settlement Scheme, which is set to open fully in March 2019.
For those not yet in the UK, we can help you explore the routes available to you to enter and reside in the UK.
